Citing Indirect Sources

If you use a source that was cited in another source, include both sources in your in-text citation, but cite only the source you have in the reference list.

For example, if you read a work by McKenna (2022) in which Hsiao (2015) was cited and you don't have the article by Hsiao, cite both in the in-text citation but only McKenna's work in the reference list.

In-text citation: (Hsiao, 2015, as cited in McKenna, 2022).

Reference list citation: McKenna, S. (2022). Plagiarism and the commodification of knowledge. Higher Education, 84(6), 1283–1298. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10734-022-00926-5
